Land transport funding gets green light
Land transport funding gets green light from local councils
Local Government New Zealand welcomes the release of the National Land Transport Programme (NLTP) which heralds the beginning of a three-year funding and programming commitment for land transport.
Peter Tennent, Mayor of New Plymouth and Local Government New Zealand's spokesperson on transport issues, says the Programme “will deliver benefits to local authorities across the country.
“Despite operating in the face of considerable fiscal restraint, the Government has made a significant commitment to addressing specific transport issues through the construction of additional roading infrastructure. Examples are the Wellington to Levin corridor, Waikato Expressway and Puhoi to Wellsford link in Auckland.
“Obviously every region would have welcomed greater budgetary allocation and in these challenging times there will be perceived winners and losers within all areas of the NLTP.
“However, Local Government New Zealand congratulates the Minister and his team on the work that has gone into creating the NLTP and we look forward to working with central Government to ensure we maximise the benefits for all communities, and the people we are elected to serve.”
