UNICEF Indonesia Earthquake Response
The latest figures from the government’s provincial disaster management unit report 704 deaths from the 30 September earthquake, with 295 people missing and 2,090 injured. The total number of houses severely damaged is now reported at 102,046 with 49,864 moderately damaged and 54,606 houses slightly damaged.
Local health authorities, with support from UNICEF, also aim to start distribution of vitamin A supplements, as part of a planned measles and polio immunization campaign next week.
UNICEF has met with all heads of district education departments to support preparation of distribution plans, including for 238 school tents that arrived yesterday in Padang and the requested schools-in-a-box and recreation kits.
Donations to the UNICEF Indonesia appeal can be made on the website www.unicef.org.nz or by calling 0800 800 194.
