ACC fraudster jailed
An Auckland IT consultant has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for defrauding ACC and an employer.
Kenneth James Green of Pakuranga pleaded guilty at the Manukau District Court to charges involving receipt of $20,351.62 of weekly compensation which he was not entitled to.
Shortly after injuring his back and claiming compensation Green started his own company and began working without informing ACC. He continued to claim weekly compensation, misrepresenting his physical capacity to a doctor seven times to obtain `unfit for work’ medical certificates.
Green’s fraud began in July 2008 and was discovered and stopped by the ACC investigation unit in November 2008.
He also pleaded guilty to charges of fraud totalling more than $250,000 against a former employer, which fired him for serious misconduct. Green was spoken to by Police after being stopped at Auckland International Airport.
``This is a good result for ACC, and for the levy-payers who fund it,’’ said Operations General Manager Graham Bashford. ``Green’s actions were nothing less than theft. Our anti-fraud operation will continue to unearth people who claim money they are clearly not entitled to.’’
