Move to hear all oral ETS bill submissions today
NEWS ALERT: Move to hear all oral submissions in ETS bill today
A move will be made 1pm to have the select committee considering major ETS changes hear all oral submissions today.
In a special edition just published, the special carbon market information service, Carbon news (www.carbonnews.co.nz) says committee chair and National MP Craig Foss will propose the shock move.
Submissions closed on Tuesday.
Carbon News says it understands Mr Foss will move a procedural motion when the Finance and Select Committee meets at 1pm to hear 27 oral submissions only. He proposes giving each submitter 10 minutes.
The committee at this stage is due to meet at 1pm, 3.45pm and 6pm today.
This means the Government will devote only 4.5 hours to hearing submissions.
Carbon News will issue other special bulletins today as more information comes to hand and the committee makes its decisions on who, how and when it will hear oral submissions.
Mr Foss’ proposal may not be agreed to by the committee.
National and the Maori party have 6 votes on the committee, Labour, the Greens and ACT also have six. Voting on the committee could be tied. Members could also agree to hear more submitters over a longer period.
Meantime, senior executives of major businesses and organisations with a vital interest in the detail of ETS law may get just a few hours’ notice by telephone to appear.
