Kiwi Party welcomes Pilbrow appointment

The Kiwi Party
Press Release
26 November, 2009

Kiwi Party leader, Larry Baldock, welcomed the appointment of Bruce Pilbrow as Deputy Families Commissioner.

“Signs of the Government shaking up the Commission are a small ‘ray of hope’ that one day the Families Commission might fulfil its real purpose, said Mr Baldock.

“As a member of the United Future caucus that set up the Commission as part of the 2002 ‘supply and confidence agreement’ with the Labour Government, I can tell you most of the 8 MP’s in the caucus were very disappointed with the appointment of the first Chief Commissioner and some of the legislation that set up the Commission.

“Right from the beginning there was a refusal to discuss the importance of Marriage and the traditional family form of Mum, Dad and the kids that research overwhelmingly shows provides the best outcomes for children.

“Since the formation of the Kiwi Party by several former UF MPs, we have questioned whether the Families Commission could extract itself from the ‘Political Correctness’ that has been dominating government departments over the past decade.

Mr Pilbrow’s rapid rise to influence does offer hope that it may succeed,” said Mr Baldock.
