Aid worker rescued from collapsed Haiti hotel
A missing staff member of TEAR Fund’s aid partner, Compassion, was miraculously found alive buried under the rubble of the Montana Hotel in Haiti’s capital.
A French rescue team found him along with three other survivors as they propped up parts of the building with hydraulic jacks. TEAR Fund acting executive director Jon Horne, said it was amazing that rescue teams are still finding people alive under the severely damaged building.
The aid worker, Dan Woolley, was on a routine visit to Haiti on behalf of TEAR Fund’s child sponsorship partner Compassion, and had only arrived a few hours before the earthquake struck. When rescued Mr Woolley was conscious and said he kept up his spirits by talking to a fellow American who was trapped nearby, and by praying. He believes the lift shaft saved him from being killed or badly injured.
He is now in as stable condition in a Miami hospital where he has been joined by his family, said Mr Horne.
