Support for Mayor’s resignation

Support for Mayor’s resignation
It is highly unusual, if not unique, for a Minister of local Government to call for the resignation of a Mayor.
On this occasion the Minister is totally justified in calling for North Shore Mayor Andrew Williams to step down from office.
I support the call for Mayor Williams’ immediate resignation. While his strange and often unseemly antics may be cause alone for his resignation I am more concerned at his appalling attacks on ministers, fellow elected colleagues on the Shore, other Mayors and people involved in community groups on the Shore.
The SuperCity may have many unaddressed issues - but instead of attacking all and sundry on those issues we should all be doing our best to have mistakes corrected and safeguards inserted.
Now would be an opportune moment for the Mayor to resign and the councillors to then elect his successor, from amongst their number, someone who is committed to progressing SuperCity issues which guarantee that North Shore residents will reap positive gains from the new Governance system, and be able to work in harmony with Ministers, the Transition Agency, and our local MPs in the difficult months ahead.
Despite occasional
well-intentioned actions, on the whole I do not believe
Andrew Williams serves the North Shore well - and these
latest media revelations, which I note he does not deny,
must surely convince the Mayor himself that he no longer has
the support of the public.
A dignified exit from
the scene would be widely welcomed on the
Shore.
