City Vision Opens Nominations for Candidates

City Vision Opens Nominations for Auckland Council Candidates

City Vision has opened nominations for Auckland Council candidates for the elections to be held in October this year.

City Vision Chair Robert Gallagher said, “We will be running a well organised campaign with strong candidates. City Vision has active and experienced councillors and community representatives who are keen to stand for selection and they will be joined by others who also have strong links to their community and its concerns.”

There is much at stake in these elections, the first for the new ‘Supercity’. Who is elected will determine whether we have a city that values people and their communities while recognising that there are limits on what ratepayers can afford, and ensures that rates are spent on items that are important to, and support, Auckland’s diverse communities.

City Vision Auckland councillors will work with other like-minded councillors across the region to ensure that our community assets such libraries, parks, pools and water are kept in community control and ownership.

City Vision wants improved public transport for Auckland; protection and enhancement of our unique landscape; responsible urban development, including retention of our historic buildings; and vibrant and safe communities.

“Local Boards are a vital part of the new City”, said Gwen Shaw, City Vision Deputy Chair. “If our communities are to have their values and interests heard, Local Boards must have real powers and representatives who are accountable to their communities and champion local concerns.”

City Vision is seeking nominations for candidates under the City Vision umbrella for Council and Local Boards in Albert-Eden-Roskill Ward, for Council in Waitemata & Gulf Ward and Waitemata Local Board, and for the Auckland District Health Board.

City Vision will be working with the Waitakere group Future West to select the best possible local candidates for the Whau Ward and Local Board and for the Portage Licensing Trust. City Vision will also continue to work with the Labour team in the Maungakiekie-Tamaki Ward.
