Work to start on Walter Nash upgrade

Mayor David Ogden has announced that the design phase of the Walter Nash upgrade project is set to begin, following the appointment of Warren and Mahoney architects.

“The revamped complex will be a wonderful asset for our city and region for years to come. It will serve the recreational needs of residents, and host sports, cultural and entertainment events.

“$50,000 has been budgeted for design work this year and $200,000 is available in our draft plan for 2010/11. The design will be undertaken in consultation with the community.

“Council has committed a further $4 million to the construction, which will begin in 2012.

“Up to $8 million of the construction costs will be met through fundraising efforts that will begin later this year.

“Raising this amount of money is no small task so we are allowing adequate time in the project timeline for this.”
