TelstraClear decision very disappointing

TelstraClear decision very disappointing

Kapiti Coast District Council’s Mayor Jenny Rowan said she was very disappointed by TelstraClear’s decision to close down its call centre at Paraparaumu, putting up to 80 jobs at risk.

“I’m very upset about the decision. Many of the workers are family members who rely on this source of income. They have provided loyal service and this is what they get in response.”

Mayor Rowan also questioned the company’s decision to move the call centre business offshore to Manila.

“I accept TelstraClear’s right to make its own business decisions, but you have to ask how much better their support service will be when it is based in Manila? I have already had feedback about how poor that service has been.”

Ms Rowan said the TelstraClear move came at a time when serious questions were already being asked about the cost, quality and dependability of communications within New Zealand.
