Government Department, CEO of the Year
Trans Tasman Announces Government Department CEO of the Year And Government Department of the Year
The Trans Tasman Political Letter has named its Government Department CEO of the Year, and Government Department of the Year.
The winners are Peter Hughes of the Ministry of Social Development as Government Department CEO of the Year and The Treasury as Government Department of the Year.
The winners were chosen by a Board of Independent Advisors, selected by The Trans Tasman Editors for their leadership, influence and credibility across a wide spectrum of sectors in the New Zealand economy, and involvement with many Government Departments.
The members of the Board of Independent Advisors are Mai Chen, Chen and Palmer; Peter Conway, New Zealand Council of Trade Unions; Bernadette Courtney, Dominion Post; David Farrar, KiwiBlog; Charles Finny, Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce; Dave Henderson, The Association of NGOs of Aotearoa; Brian Lynch, New Zealand Institute of International Affairs; Phil O'Reilly, Business New Zealand; Tina Reid, NZ Federation of Voluntary Welfare Organisations; Katherine Rich, New Zealand Food and Grocery Council; Bruce Robertson, Hospitality Association of New Zealand; Barrie Saunders, Saunders Unsworth; John Shewan, Pricewaterhouse Coopers; Ross Tanner, Tanner Ritchie and Company; Alasdair Thompson, Employers and Manufacturers Association (Northern), and Mark Unsworth, Saunders Unsworth.
The Board members were asked to nominate their three top Departments and Department CEOs in the just released Trans Tasman 2010 New Zealand Government Departments Briefing Report.
Peter Hughes of the Ministry of Social Development took the CEO award by a wide margin. John Whitehead of The Treasury and John Allen of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade were runners up.
The voting was tighter for Government Department of the Year. The Treasury held out the Ministry of Social Development, with the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet in third place.
Profiles of Peter Hughes and The Treasury taken from the 2010 Trans Tasman Government Departments Briefing Report are attached.
