Unique Wine Label Backs Bid To Save The Regent

Media Release

13 July 2010

Unique Wine Label Marks Quartz Reef Winery’s Bid To Save The Regent Theatre

Austrian by birth, but a true blue Kiwi at heart, Quartz Reef’s winemaker Rudi Bauer is throwing his weight (and his award winning wines) behind saving Dunedin’s Regent Theatre.

As well as taking up the role as a key sponsor of the Regent Theatre’s Wine Auction and Gala evening that will be held on Saturday 17 July, Quartz Reef have also teamed up with well known Dunedin artist Nicola Jackson to produce some very unique bottles of Pinot Noir.

Nicola Jackson has created a unique piece of art for the special gala event. Her art has been turned into very limited edition art labels that now grace six bottles of Quartz Reef Pinot Noir 2007 as well as a magnum of Quartz Reef Bendigo Estate Pinot Noir 2006. The uniquely labelled Pinot Noir and the original Nicola Jackson art work will be auctioned during the Wine Auction and Gala evening.

Money raised from the auction will be used to help fund vital refurbishment work on the Regent Theatre, to ensure the cultural icon is able to remain open.

“Growing up in Austria, I was surrounded by a rich and vibrant theatre culture. I believe every city should have a premium live performance venue and we need to do all we can to ensure Dunedin’s Regent Theatre can keep its doors open. I want to ensure my children have the chance to experience live music, dance, opera and theatrewithout having to travel to Auckland, Australia or Austria, says Rudi Bauer.

“I extend my gratitude to all the other wine growers and vineyards who are taking part in the special event. Just like the Regent Theatre, fine wine is an important part of our region’s special cultural offering.”

As part of Quartz Reef’s sponsorship arrangement, guests at the exclusive black tie event will enjoy drinking awarding winning Quartz Reef Methode Traditionnelle Non-Vintage during the evening.

Quartz Reef Vineyard in Central Otago produces an award winning range of Methode Traditionnelle Non-Vintage and Vintage, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. As well as being available in selected outlets throughout New Zealand, the wine range is also enjoyed internationally in Australia, Asia (Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan), Canada, the United Kingdom and some European countries.

Ends.
