Council says it is not ours – political survey

Kāpiti Coast District Council says a second survey, this one of a political nature, is causing some confusion in the District.

“Council contracted UMR Research to carry out a telephone survey of 400 residents this week. The survey is strictly about the delivery of council’s services.

“It has become apparent, however, that another survey is being undertaken at the same time. This is most unfortunate, but it is beyond our control,” says Council Chief Executive Pat Dougherty.

“In the Council survey, UMR makes it very clear at the beginning that they are seeking the views of residents on the delivery of council services. You will be asked where you live, whether you are male or female, your age, and then a series of questions on council services. The interview takes at least 15 minutes.

“In the other survey, residents are being asked to comment about how council has been ‘performing’ over the past three years. They are also asked to comment on who should be the next Mayor of Kapiti? The interviewer says the survey will take two minutes or less.

“We need to make it clear that Council is not involved in the second survey, nor is it aware of who is involved or which company or companies, if any, are involved.

“The Council survey is a routine activity and similar to those undertaken by many other councils around New Zealand. The information gathered will help council target areas in future where service delivery needs to be changed.”
