North Now announces candidates for Waitemata District Health Board

26 July 2010: North Now, the independent North Shore/North Harbour ticket, has announced more candidates for the Waitemata District Health Board.

In addition to Christine Rankin and Graeme Hunt, who are also standing for the new Auckland Council, two other candidates will also be seeking election to the district health board.

They are: physiotherapist Anne Siddall, of Herald Island, and human resource and employment practitioner Max Whitehead, of Forrest Hill.

Siddall, who has spent most of her life in Northwest Auckland and on the North Shore, trained in physiotherapy in Otago and later tutored in physiotherapy in what is now AUT University. She has been in physiotherapy practice at Forrest Hill for the past 18 years.
Her motivation for seeking election is to improve the standard and delivery of heathcare in the Waitemata health district, especially at North Shore Hospital which, she says, falls well short of what is mandatory in the health service.

“I am not prepared to accept second or third best when it comes to health matters and believe I can make a difference,” she says.
”North Shore Hospital should be the flagship of a vibrant health system. Regrettably it falls well short of what the public and practitioners like me expect. I want to help change that.”

Whitehead, an employment law specialist with many years’ corporate experience, says the Waitemata District Health Board struggles to meet the needs of people on the North Shore, North Harbour and West Auckland.

“My experience in employment issues, negotiation and mediated settlements will, I believe, be put to good use if I’m elected to the DHB,” he says.

“Delivery of health services is not just about money. A combination of compassion, better staff relations and efficiency will go a long way toward improving outcomes. These are areas where I can make a real contribution.”
