New Zealand’s Youngest Mayoral Candidate

New Zealand’s Youngest Mayoral Candidate

At only 21 years old, Jevan Goulter is New Zealand’s youngest Mayoral Candidate in history, Goulter is claiming that he has what it takes to lead Wanganui into the future if successful in the 2010 local body elections. “Wanganui needs a positive leader to create a thriving city” Goulter states as he campaigns for the top job. Being young, maori and gay Jevan represents change in a lot of different ways.

One of the major issues that Goulter realises is that the council is in a substantial amount of debt and that 'we' as a city are going to have to do something very soon to fix this. “I realise the debt that the council is in, and I want to be able to offer sustainable, affordable and reasonable rates to the residents of Wanganui”.

Goulter plans to win the mayoralty and achieve his goal of being the youngest mayoral candidate in New Zealand ever to be elected into office. “We have just watched Wyatt Roy in the Australian Federal Elections win public office at the age of 20 years old. As we can see from this, age has proved not be a hinderance, as I, even at the age of 21 years old, have had many experiences and met many different walks of life and think that I am in a strong position to successfully lead Wanganui”.

Goulter plans to win this election with a 'back to basics' campaign, “my goal is to attend as many events, meet as many people, and answer as many questions as possible the public have, while showing voters what I have to offer and what my policies are”.
Bringing the city together and uniting everybody together as one big community that respects individuals and groups for their own beliefs is something that is important to Mr Goulter, that everybody is equal and everybody deserves exactly the same chance as everybody else. “We live together, we work together, we will move forward together” is one of the slogans that Jevan Goulter has been promoting around Wanganui.

When it comes time for the public to cast their vote Goulter is adamant that he is the right man for the job and the only candidate who brings a fresh outlook to the position, with experience and motivation to actively make progress and sees himself as the only candidate with the ability to inspire people to move forward.
