Outgoing council pays tribute to CCOs and Boards

The outgoing Auckland City Council last night paid tribute to the excellent service and commitment of its boards and council controlled organisations (CCOs).

The council honoured the achievements of board members and senior staff, attended by representatives from The Edge, Parking Advisory Board, Property Enterprise Board, Metrowater, Watercare, Auckland Zoo and Art Gallery.

Finance and Strategy Committee Chairperson, Councillor Douglas Armstrong, says Auckland City Council has successfully operated a structure in which boards and CCOs perform defined roles in specialist areas.

“These entities have performed vital roles, whether delivering expert advice to the council, like our parking and property boards; excellence in the creative sector, like The Edge; or in Metrowater’s case, taking care of the delivery of water.

“Council has overseen their activities and finances, in line with our commitment to ratepayers. From experience, I believe the CCO and Board structure is nothing to fear.”

Councillor Armstrong paid particular tribute to board members/directors who have served six years or more: Peter Stubbs and Bob Harvey (The Edge), Alison Paterson and George Green (Metrowater); Warren Gibb (Parking Advisory Board); Graeme Hawkins and Patrick Snedden (Watercare); John Wigglesworth (Art Gallery).

“Over many years they have each provided continuity and experience to meet challenges and provide excellent results for the people of Auckland.”
