Miccio first mayoral candidate to open office door to public

In January of this year Aldo Miccio became the first ever Nelson mayoral candidate to open his personal office door to the public, to hear their views regarding the city’s issues – a practice he intends to continue when elected mayor.

Now, after having personally met with more than 400 people throughout the course of this year, Miccio concludes the three major issues of concern amongst Nelsonians are – rate hikes, council accountability to residents and ensuring core services are maintained and delivered cost effectively.

“I have listened, and these three fundamental concerns of the Nelson community, together with a philosophy that council's progressive role is to attract investment, families, businesses and jobs to the region, form the base of all four of my campaign pillars; Affordable Council, Economic Development, New Jobs and Education and Getting Nelson On the Map,” Miccio says.

“Nelson is clearly hurting from a council that’s not listening,” he says. “When elected mayor I intend to continue to keep my Friday mornings free for individual residents to come and meet with me.

“I also believe the important election question Nelsonians will need to ask is what sort of mayor the city needs,” he says. “The mayor is the skipper on the ship - the person behind the helm setting the direction. When all the promises, policies and speeches are all said and done, who is going to deliver?

“I believe Nelson needs a mayor who is passionate about the concerns of its people, can lead and inspire a team, and has a proven track record of making things happen. We need a mayor who will be an ambassador and champion for our city.”
