Submissions open for 2010 ISSL and LTSSL reviews
Submissions open for 2010 ISSL and LTSSL second review
Immigration New Zealand has announced that submissions are now open for its second bi-annual review of the Immediate Skill Shortage List (ISSL) and the Long Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL).
The Head of Immigration New Zealand, Nigel Bickle, says that the same process is followed for each review. “Information is gathered from submissions made by external stakeholders and this is considered alongside economic, labour market and immigration data,” Mr Bickle says.
“Submissions can cover a range of issues. They can request that an occupation is either added or removed or that changes are made to the qualifications and experience levels required. Occupations can also be moved between lists if demand changes. However, making a submission will not automatically lead to an occupation being added to a list.”
The ISSL includes occupations that are in immediate demand in the New Zealand labour market. The LTSSL includes occupations that are in long term and global shortage.
Mr Bickle says the Department regularly reviews the labour market and works closely with key stakeholders to help identify areas of immediate and long-term skill shortage.
“This is to ensure that the lists reflect genuine skill shortages so New Zealanders are not disadvantaged while at the same time employers get the skilled employees they need.
“We encourage individuals and organisations to work together as a coordinated group to provide a combined industry submission which represents the shared views of the key players within their particular industry.”
Submissions will be accepted until Friday 12 November 2010.
The Essential Skills in Demand Lists are not the only options for skilled migrants to enter and work in New Zealand. Other options include the Skilled Migrant Category for permanent residence, and temporary work policies such as Essential Skills work policy and Talent (Accredited Employers) Work Policy.
