Last chance to vote in local elections
Voting for the 2010 Local Government Elections closes tomorrow at noon and from the number of votes received so far, it seems as though there will be a very similar proportion of voters as the last 2007 Election.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council Electoral Officer Cindy Butt said the average voting document return rate across the entire Bay of Plenty was at 38.24 percent from today’s count. “This is a very similar trend experienced in the 2007 Election,” she said.
“At the close of voting in 2007 the average voting return across the Bay of Plenty was 44 percent, and from returns received so far, I expect a similar return trend to occur this Election,” Ms Butt said.
Postal voting closed on Thursday, but people are still able to vote. Voters need to hand deliver their voting papers to the relevant district council offices in their area before midday tomorrow (Saturday 9 October). Special votes can be requested if you are not enrolled.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s preliminary results for the current Election are expected to be available late tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon. Preliminary results for the Regional Council will be posted onto our website www.envbop.govt.nz as they become available.
Final results for the Regional Council are not expected to be declared until next week.
