Victory for Gaza aid convoy
Victory for Gaza aid convoy! Kiwis help convoy make
history!
Cairo politicians have today
agreed to allow the international aid convoy safe passage
across Egypt and into Gaza.
"Our Kiwi Team is part of a convoy that's making history by breaking the inhuman Israeli siege of Gaza," said Grant Morgan, co-organiser of Kia Ora Gaza.
Roger Fowler, captain of Kia Ora Gaza's six-person team on the convoy, said in a text message: "We expect to depart Friday morning by ship from Syria to Egypt's port of Al-Arish."
With Syria 10 hours behind New Zealand time, that means the convoy's departure will come tomorrow evening NZT.
The
Egyptian government's response is a reversal of its previous
ban on solidarity aid convoys to Gaza. It comes after the
Israeli military attack on the Gaza aid ship Mavi Marmara
four months ago, when nine humanitarian volunteers were shot
to death and dozens more wounded by
gunfire.
