Young Nats Stand Up for Hobbit

New Zealand Young Nationals are again speaking out this week, as nationwide union sabotage has struck an all-time low. The attempt by Wellington unionists to undermine film producers of *The Hobbit* has caused Warner Brothers/New Line to support relocation of the film’s production to Australia.

However, the Young Nationals applaud Prime Minister, John Key’s indication of keeping the film’s production here in New Zealand.

“New Zealand has had enough. This week, New Zealand suffers as the union agenda rears its ugly head. Unions are not advancing the position of workers at all, instead we are seeing golden opportunities for New Zealand to compete and succeed for our arts and culture internationally, wiped out by a damaging union agenda and we are saying no to this” says Young Nationals Policy Officer, Oliver Ibbetson.

The rallying of New Zealanders in support of the producers has been immensely positive and encouraging.

Young Nationals Vice President, Zach Castles says “Peter Jackson is one of New Zealand’s finest and the left can’t stand it. New Zealanders have the opportunity to come together over the next few weeks to stand up for New Zealand culture and identity, to stand up for our film industry and say no to union sabotage in this country”.

The Young Nationals firmly believe in building an inclusive national identity that supports home-grown talent on the international stage.
