Simon Power to Speak at Alcohol Law Reform Forum

Minister of Justice Hon Simon Power to Speak at Alcohol Law Reform Forum

Minister of Justice Hon Simon Power will present the Government’s alcohol law reform proposals at a forum to be held in Auckland tomorrow.

The Creating a Brighter Future – Alcohol Law Reform Forum, organised by Alcohol Healthwatch, will be held on Wednesday 3 November from 9.30am to 3:30pm at the Waipuna Conference Centre.

The forum will provide the opportunity for discussion and debate on key issues to help inform submission writing and other engagement with the law reform process.

Professor Sally Casswell from SHORE/Whariki Research Group, Massey University will also be presenting an evidence-based response to alcohol law reform.

Alcohol Healthwatch Director Rebecca Williams says the forum will provide delegates with the opportunity to discuss the important issues as we await the imminent release of the Government’s alcohol law reform Bill.

“This law reform process represents a ‘once in a generation’ opportunity to address alcohol-related harm in New Zealand and the heavy burden it places on us all. We want to encourage all concerned New Zealanders to participate in the process so that the new law meets their expectations, and a safer and healthier New Zealand emerges from it.

“We are privileged to have Hon Simon Power and Professor Casswell joining other speakers and delegates to discuss these important issues.”
