Wintec Council's response to TEU claims

Wintec Council's response to TEU claims

Wintec's Council chair Gordon Chesterman is unhappy with the untrue claims made yesterday by the Tertiary Education Union that the Council has awarded it members pay rises.

"Payment to all tertiary institute council members is regulated and prescribed by the Government, through the Minister of Education. The fees are not set or agreed upon by council members".

"The TEU's statement is very misleading in regard to fees and it also incorrectly aligns the Wintec Council, which is a governing body, into the operational issues of industrial relations with staff. The matter of industrial relations is handled by the Council's employee the Chief Executive. The Council does not comment on such matters."

Wintec's Chief Executive Mark Flowers says the negotiations with the TEU have been prolonged and involve difficult issues. "It is not appropriate to comment publicly on details of the negotiations while discussions with the Union are on-going."
