Struggling to Survive

Struggling to Survive

Republic of New Zealand Party Finance Spokesmen and candidate for Napier, Brett Docherty, says many families in the Hawkes Bay are struggling to survive.

“Increased prices for groceries, fruit and vegetables, petrol, power, water and rates combined with GST that penalizes lower income earners, rising unemployment, beneficiary bashing and continuing financial oppression by the National Government explains why I have seen a lot of empty fridges.” he said.

“As long as their friends are fine Slippery John and Co. don’t care. Bereft of ideas and devoid of social conscience they are abusing the human right to food and shelter. No wonder the exodus continues.”

Mr Docherty said the current level of borrowing was unsustainable.

“The Government needs to admit its mistake in giving the wealthy such a big tax break and take it back,” he said

He thought that John Key was unlikely to do this because the well heeled are the National Party’s natural constituency.

“Those tax cuts are increasingly being seen as irresponsible and will become a millstone around the Government’s neck.”

Mr Docherty said that the economic management strategies of both major parties have shown that they lack a vision for the future of New Zealand and had nothing to offer towards growing the economy.

“We need a New Start,” he said.

Republic of New Zealand policy is tax transformation aimed at creating some real growth in the economy.

We’ll also provide some relief to hard pressed families through our Family Benefit Plus Scheme.

We’ll support Kiwi Saver as it currently is and we won’t tax the interest earned by members.

Mr Docherty pointed out that Australia had accumulated $1.3 trillion from their superannuation scheme while here in New Zealand we have argued and tinkered and now have nothing.

Mr Docherty said New Zealand needed to get growth back into the economy but doubted National’s ability to do it.

“Key and English have no idea and are squandering our future. They have almost wrecked us now. Give them another three years and we will be well and truly done.”
