Crime and Justice Speakers’ Bureau
Launched to Promote Law and Order Debate “The public are
sick of hearing the same old things from the same old people
about crime and justice issues” says Kim Workman, Director
of Rethinking Crime and Punishment.
“In an effort to give the public access to reliable information from people who know what they are talking about, we have today launched a Speakers’ Bureau on the Rethinking Website.” “If people are well informed, they will be able to ask their members of parliament, the media, and justice reform advocates, more searching questions. People speaking in the public arena have a responsibility to get their facts right, and not con the public with a lot of drivel.”
“Community and church groups, service and sports clubs, or any group of people who want to know more about crime and justice, can apply through our website to have one of our 30 experts speak at an event. They come with a variety of life experience, knowledge and expertise. Some have been in prison, others have run them. Some are internationally recognised academics, others have spent their life working at the justice coalface. Some are authorities in areas such as youth offending, restorative justice, and sex offending.
We will be expanding the bureau over the next six months to get better coverage in the provincial areas, and to broaden the range of topics. Readers can view the bureau at www.rethinking.org.nz/Default.aspx?page=3572
