Your NZ Raise Eyebrows With Unusual Approach

Emerging party Your NZ reveals some intent with an unusual approach to finding independent candidates for their party list. Eyebrows that were waiting and watching may raise a little more. They promised to be different, and they are.

Your NZ have posted a highly unorthodox situation vacant on Trade Me Jobs. They “are seeking the best possible list candidate to stand in the November general election”, sounding out the market for “a unique, high potential opportunity to invest your time, where non-political people can stand for parliament based on non-ideological competence and vision. It could be a life changer and may be a political game changer.”

Your NZ wants to raise the value of list seats and are prepared to stake the party claims on an innovative group leadership approach. They contend that electorate MPs should be fully committed to their constituents and standard parliamentary responsibilities so it was logical for the list MPs to utilise their time on party leadership and national issues and policies.

The selection process is also outside the square, with indications applicants need to demonstrate their net savvyness as a part of promoting their abilities. This looks like a way of testing their vision and innovation using popular social network applications. A high exposure test for a high exposure job.

This is a major punt by Your NZ to see if there are people willing to make a real difference in politics, but have been naturally excluded by the traditional party system. People with vision and ambition can be reluctant to slowly work their way up party hierarchies and then be limited by narrow ideologies.

It could be seen as a fast track that will have a chance of success, with the current state of parties being seen widely as underwhelming there are opportunities for testing innovation.

YourNZ reported that interest in the position on Trade Me has been steady all day.
