Local Government New Zealand Conference 2011: Future Focus

Local Government New Zealand Conference 2011: Future Focus

10 July 2011

The Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) Conference 2011 will be opened tomorrow by Prime Minster Rt Hon John Key.

The two-day conference at the Wellington Convention Centre has a future focus theme and will bring together over 500 local government leaders, sector stakeholders and central government decision-makers.

The stellar line up of speakers includes:

• Green Growth Advisory Group member Melissa Clark-Reynolds
• Philips Lighting’s Harry Verhaar
• motivator Ngahi Bidois
• Shaun Coffey, chief executive of Industrial Research
• Brett O’Riley, chief executive of New Zealand Information and Communication Technologies Group Inc.

Conference 2011 will discuss the role of peak oil in green growth, spatial planning and what cities need to consider for growth, digital strategies, and the ultra-fast broadband project.

Local Government Minister Rodney Hide will address the conference as will Labour’s local government spokesperson Phil Twyford.

LGNZ President Lawrence Yule says councils play a leading role in helping communities plan for the future and with so many thought-provoking speakers the conference will offer plenty of food for thought.
