PSA celebrates legal living wage for sleepover workers

The PSA says this evening’s introduction of the Sleepover Wages (Settlement) Bill is a victorious moment for support workers throughout New Zealand.

“This has been a long fought campaign for the important work that our members do to be recognised.

They’ve waited a long time for this moment and they are delighted to see this legislation receive its first reading.

While this legislation enacts an agreement between IDEA Services and its workers it also paves the way for settlements with other employers' and employees' claims to be resolved.

“This is a monumental achievement for workers and the vulnerable people they support.
“The support sector has been chronically underfunded for years, so this legislation is a step in the right direction and that is certainly something to celebrate,” says Richard Wagstaff.
