It is a myth that New Zealand
Superannuation is set at two thirds of the average wage. The
real rate for a single person is around 33 percent. The 66
percent refers to the rate for a couple, which is being
compared to the average wage for one person. As increasing
numbers of people over 65 are living alone, it is wrong to
keep quoting the couple rate exclusively.
