Age Concern on Incorrect Reporting
Incorrect Reporting
It is a myth that New Zealand Superannuation is set at two thirds of the average wage. The real rate for a single person is around 33 percent. The 66 percent refers to the rate for a couple, which is being compared to the average wage for one person. As increasing numbers of people over 65 are living alone, it is wrong to keep quoting the couple rate exclusively.
