Thailand Flooding: MFAT Travel Advisory
Thailand Flooding: Travel Advisory
The following information can be attributed to a spokesperson for the Ministry:
* New Zealand's travel advisory for
Thailand has been reviewed due to on-going severe flooding
across central, northern and north-eastern Thailand.
*
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is now advising New
Zealanders against all tourist and other non-essential
travel to the city of Bangkok and the 26 provinces of
Thailand affected by flooding due to disruptions to
transport and other services and sporadic food and water
shortages. (This is an increase to the travel advisory
level).
* Suvarnabhumi International Airport
in Bangkok is operating normally and our advice against all
tourist and other non-essential travel does not apply to
transit through Suvarnabhumi airport.
* The resort destinations of Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Krabi, Koh Samui and Phuket are not currently affected by the flooding and are operating normally. We are not advising against travel to these destinations.
* New Zealanders currently in Thailand are advised to monitor local news and weather reports closely and adhere to any instructions and restrictions issued by the Thai authorities. New Zealanders should contact their airline, tour operator, travel agent and travel insurance provider directly if their travel plans are disrupted due to the flooding.
* New
Zealanders in Thailand should have comprehensive medical and
travel insurance policies in place and are encouraged to
register their details with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
and Trade, http://www.safetravel.govt.nz/

Unless the
situation changes significantly, this will be MFAT's only
media update on
this.
