The Lord Mayor of the “Square Mile” of London comes to New Zealand.

David Wootton the 684th Lord Mayor of the City of London will be coming to New Zealand in just over a week’s time.

Mr Wootton is the Ambassador for Britain’s financial services industry which includes regional financial centres such as Manchester, Glasgow and Bristol. As part of his Ambassadorial role for the city’s financial services he also receives visiting Heads of State on behalf of the British Government.

The man who presides over the “square mile” of central London says “the City’s standing as a world leading financial hub is a major asset to both the UK and the world It is something we must work to maintain and enhance in light of the global economy at present”.

Yorkshireman ,David Wootton was elected to head the City of London for a year .The City corporation is an ancient organisation which has a constitution older then the Norman conquest. The Lord Mayor’s status in Britain is just below that of a cabinet minister.

“I am here to stress that the UK is open for business .The recovery is underway with an encouraging trade deficit figure that shows a fall in imports and a small recovery in exports producing the lowest trade deficit since 2003.”

The Lord Mayor will be in Auckland for two days on the 13th and 14th of March where he will meet the mayor of the Supercity, Len Brown and talk to business in the Queen City about investment and trade opportunities .
