Award-winning child poverty documentary shows the way
Child Poverty Action Group congratulates documentary maker Bryan Bruce for winning best one-off documentary in the Best of the Box People's Choice Awards.
Spokesperson Susan St John says, "The Inside Child Poverty documentary has done a tremendous job of raising awareness of child poverty in New Zealand.
Child poverty does not make for comfortable viewing but this documentary carried a great sense of hope about what could be done if we had the political will to make children's needs a priority. We congratulate Bryan Bruce for bringing this serious issue to the attention of New Zealanders."
CPAG held an exclusive screening of the documentary on March 4 at the Academy cinema in Auckland. Special guests Bryan Bruce and Jazmine Heka answered questions about the documentary and its ongoing impact.
The event marked the launch of CPAG’s appeal for funding to take its long-running case to stop discrimination against New Zealand's poorest children to the Court of Appeal and beyond.
