CTU welcomes iwi support for locked out workers
Syd Keepa, CTU Vice President Maori today acknowledges the support and concern for locked out AFFCO meat workers from Ngati Kahungunu, and calls on AFFCO to end the lockout and return to bargaining.
Syd Keepa said “we welcome reports of Ngati Kahungunu considering asking Maori farmers not to send their livestock to the AFFCO meatworks in the northern Hawke's Bay town of Wairoa as part of their strategy to help whanau affected by the lock out in their community.”
“We also want to acknowledge the work the iwi is doing to support of the locked out workers and their whanau. The support centre opened by Ngati Kahungunu in Wairoa on Monday, provides much appreciated food and other services from the community to the locked out workers and their families.”
“We’re behind these workers one hundred percent, and there is widespread support for AFFCO workers in the union movement generally. We are calling on AFFCO to end the lockout and return to bargaining,” said Syd Keepa.
