Will there be an inquiry into Nick Smith’s conduct?

New Zealand’s online predictions market iPredict, has today launched a stock asking whether or not there will be a formal inquiry into former minister Nick Smith’s conduct as Minister for ACC

iPredict’s 6000 registered traders and anyone else who signs up for free at https://www.ipredict.co.nz/app.php?do=register can trade the stock at https://www.ipredict.co.nz/app.php?do=contract_detail&contract=SMITH.INQUIRY.

Dr Smith and the Labour and other opposition parties are seeking an inquiry although Prime Minister John Key appears to have ruled it out.

The value of the stock in cents at any given time will indicate the percentage probability that an inquiry will be announced before 1 May 2012.

iPredict has also launched a bundle of stocks asking who will replace Dr Smith as a Cabinet Minister and other stocks asking who might be appointed a Minister Outside Cabinet. These can be traded at https://wwwipredict.co.nz/app.php?do=browse&cat=1 and early trading suggests Civil Defence Minister Chris Tremain will be promoted to Cabinet and Tauranga MP Simon Bridges appointed a Minister Outside Cabinet.

The probability of Labour leading the next New Zealand Government has increased from 50% to 55% since Dr Smith’s resignation, and peaked briefly at 57%. That stock can be traded at https://www.ipredict.co.nz/app.php?do=contract_detail&contract=PM2014.LABOUR.
