Cranford Hospice Now In Good Heart
In complete contrast to an audit of Cranford Hospice two years ago a new audit released this week could find no fault or make any recommendations to improve Cranford Hospice’s, culture, governance, financial management or its service quality and delivery.
Kevin Snee chief executive of Hawke’s Bay DHB said it was one of the best audits he had seen from Central Region Technical Advisory Service and everyone should be pleased that through decisive action and transformational change Cranford Hospice was now delivering a service the community could be proud of.
“Two years ago we were faced with a hospice in crisis and hard decisions needed to be made. From the ground up through hard work and collaboration under the leadership of key staff at the DHB, Cranford and PSEC the hospice has been rebuilt.
Dr Snee said a new governance structure, better financial management and a complete change in culture at Cranford Hospice had seen care and support to patients delivered the way it should be.
“The district health board had no choice but to take significant action two years ago or the community was at risk of losing Cranford Hospice. By moving inpatient beds to the Hawke’s Bay Hospital campus it gave everyone an opportunity to join forces, work together and gain from the experience.”
Palliative care is an important part of health care and by joining forces we can work to build on an even stronger community palliative care service, he said.
“I personally want to thank everyone involved for their dedication and commitment over the past two years so we now have a strong robust service where the culture is continually about improving patient care.”
Dr Snee said PSEC should be proud of the audit which praised it for the robust service it had been able to build as well as the audit of Enliven Positive Aging Services who had been commended for their models of care, staff commitment and quality systems.
The district health board provides $2.7 million a year in funding to Cranford Hospice.
