Law Society considers Family Court Review report

MEDIA RELEASE – For immediate use, 2 August 2012
Law Society considers Family Court Review report

The New Zealand Law Society will carefully consider the proposals announced by the Minister of Justice for changes to the Family Court, the chair of the Law Society’s Family Law Section, Garry Collin, said today.

He said the Law Society’s Family Law Section would now study the proposed changes in detail and assess their likely impact on all parties who use the Family Courts.

“Maintaining a workable and efficient Family Court system which enables families to resolve their disputes is our key concern,” he said.

Mr Collin said the Minister had announced that legislation to implement the proposed changes would be introduced in late 2012 and the Law Society would be making submissions on this.
