New Ministry of Women’s Affairs CE Appointed

The State Services Commissioner, Iain Rennie, today announced the appointment of Dr Jo Cribb as the new Chief Executive of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MWA).

Dr Cribb, currently Deputy Children’s Commissioner, Office of the Children’s Commission has more than 10 years’ experience as a senior manager and policy leader in the Children’s Commission, the Families Commission, the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) and the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA).

Mr Rennie said that during her career, Dr Cribb has established effective working relationships with Ministers, government agencies, NGOs, Māori organisations,
iwi, Pacific communities and the business sector.

“Dr Cribb is a strong, solutions-focussed leader. She is experienced in helping organisations create a vision and direction, leading to its successful implementation,” Mr Rennie said.

As Chief Executive, Dr Cribb will lead a Ministry that has reputation for providing high quality analysis and advice and is responsible for improving outcomes for New Zealand’s women. This is achieved through providing facts and policy on critical issues facing women and influencing key policymakers and stakeholders to play their part.

Dr Cribb, who has a Doctorate of Public Policy, will begin her role on 19 November 2012, with her term going through to 31 July 2017.

Te Puni Kōkiri Deputy Secretary Kim Ngarimu has been Acting Chief Executive since Rowena Phair left earlier this year to become Deputy Secretary, Student Achievement, at the Ministry of Education.

BIOGRAPHY OF DR JO CRIBB





Dr Jo Cribb is currently the Deputy Children’s Commissioner.

She is an experienced leader and researcher in public policy and non-government organisations (NGOs) and recently led the preparation of the Government's Green Paper on Vulnerable Children.

Prior to taking up her role as the Deputy Children's Commissioner, Dr Cribb led policy and research work at a number of government agencies, including the Ministry of Social Development, the Families Commission, the Department of Internal Affairs and the State Services Commission.

She was awarded a PhD in Public Policy from Victoria University and holds post graduate qualifications from the University of Canterbury and the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.

Jo is active in the NGO sector and has been privileged to hold a number of community governance roles.

She is married with two children.
