NZ third in the world for ease of doing business – rethink called for on law changes
The government should rethink its employment law proposals, following confirmation today in an international survey that it is already easy to do business in New Zealand, FIRST Union said today.
The annual World Bank Doing Business report, out a short time ago, sees New Zealand retain its place of 3rd in the world, following Singapore and Hong Kong.
“We are constantly told by this government that we need more flexible labour laws to make New Zealand businesses more efficient and successful,” said Robert Reid, General Secretary of FIRST Union.
“But today’s survey confirms New Zealand is already a highly business-friendly country.”
“Removing employment rights does not create jobs.”
“Rather than working up plans to weaken our work rights, the government would be better spending its time coming up with a credible plan to address the jobs crisis facing our productive sector, including measures to help export firms being punished by the persistently high New Zealand dollar,” Robert Reid said.
