New Final Reporting Date for Quakes Royal Commission

MEDIA RELEASE 23 October 2012

New Final Reporting Date for Quakes Royal Commission

The Canterbury Earthquakes Royal Commission will now deliver the third and final part of its final report by 30 November 2012.

Part three of the final report will include the results of the investigation into the collapse of the CTV building and other aspects of the Terms of Reference which have not already been addressed in part one of the final report (delivered on 29 June 2012) and part two of the final report (delivered on 10 October 2012).

The terms of reference required the Commission to complete the delivery of the remainder of its final report by 12 November. However, the Governor-General has agreed to the Commission’s request for the terms of reference to be modified to allow the later reporting date.

The extra time is needed because the CTV hearing took significantly longer than anticipated when the 12 November deadline was agreed in February 2012.

Once the last part of the report is delivered, the Governor-General will give it to the Government. The Government, not the Commission, will decide when and how it is publicly released.
