Having fun with the TPPA — Cartoon competition, $1500 in prizes available
New Zealand satirists, graphic artists and students have an opportunity to capitalise on a controversial international trade agreement.
www.itsourfuture.org.nz, a website for kiwis concerned about the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA), has launched a cartoon competition to draw attention to the up-coming Auckland round of TPPA negotiations.
The competition is divided into three categories, each with a prize of $500.
The categories
are:
• Best Cartoon award, which will be judged by
prominent journalist Finlay Macdonald.
• People’s
Choice award, which will be voted for online using Facebook;
and
• Special student’s award - the winner of this
category will also receive a special scholarship from the
BizDojo Co.Space to use their facilities.
Scoop Independent News (publishers of Scoop.co.nz), the New Zealand Society of Authors, the Bruce Jesson Foundation and the BizDojo Co.Space have generously sponsored the competition.
The Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) is one of the biggest political issues facing New Zealand but one of the least publicised and least understood.
It involves eleven Asian and Pacific-rim countries — including the United States. It is being negotiated behind closed doors with no possibility of public oversight.
www.itsourfuture.org.nz is concerned that if the TPPA goes ahead, we risk major damage to our economy, our environment, our health, and the ability to shape our own future.
The next negotiating round is taking place in Auckland from 3-12 December 2012.
BizDojo will host an exhibition of the cartoons in Auckland during the first week of negotiations.
Cartoon competition
entries close Friday 23 November. For more information and
terms and conditions go to www.itsourfuture.org.nz/cartoon-competition.
