Game and Forest Foundation welcomes the Select Committee Report on the Game Animal Council Bill.

“The release of the Select Committee report on the Game Animal Council Bill is another milestone for hunting, game management and conservation in New Zealand” said Tom Williams Chairman of the Game and Forest Foundation Current legislation has resulted in a decline in quality of our game resource and lost opportunities for recreational hunting, tourism, farming and conservation.

Establishing the Game Animal Council will help arrest that decline and enable the hunting sector to move forward and also make up some of the lost opportunity. “Hunters are some of New Zealand’s most ardent conservationists. Our ability to provide food for our tables and look after our environment at the same time helps make New Zealand the special place it is” said Tom Williams Game And Forest thanks the Select Committee for its efforts in bringing forward this report.

“We give our full support to setting up the Game Animal Council and look forward to participating in further stages of the Bill’s passage through parliament. We also want to express our thanks to the Hon Peter Dunne, Associate Minister of Conservation, for his continued support for the Game Animal Council” said Tom Williams

Game and Forest is an independent non-profit foundation representing New Zealanders who value our game and forests. Game & Forest promotes sustainable management of game animals as a valuable economic, social, cultural and conservation resource.
