Massive Effort To Make A World Without Factory Farming
Animal advocacy group SAFE says a compassionate Christmas is in sight when thousands of caring New Zealanders hit the street this week to collect funds for SAFE’s vital work to help factory-farmed animals.
SAFE is currently receiving a momentous reaction to its pioneering new advertisement. Helping animals plead their own case, with their own voice, the groundbreaking ad is turning opinion against cruel factory farming – with animals not just talking, but singing for help, on national television!
“The feedback we have been receiving is simply incredible with people describing the ads as 'shockingly beautiful', 'brilliant'; 'an idea whose time has come'. It’s inspiring thousands of New Zealander’s to help make a world without factory farming a reality. People really want change – and now!” says Hans Kriek, Executive Director.
In 2009 a campaign led by SAFE beamed images of mother pigs suffering in sow stalls to households all over the country. Footage of pigs spending their whole lives confined and unable even to turn around shocked the nation. The subsequent outcry led to real change in the welfare and regard of pigs with a phase-out of the cruel stalls. Now SAFE has turned its attention to stopping all cruel factory farming practices.
“Factory farming is the greatest cause of animal suffering in New Zealand today. Together, with caring kiwis we have the power to make a difference. Funds raised during SAFE’s annual appeal will make change possible as we drive our message forward,” says Mr Kriek.
SAFE is also fortunate to have celebrity support with TV personality Jaquie Brown joining the score of collectors. “SAFE does amazing work for animals, in particular preventing them from living a compromised life of misery on factory farms. This is something that means a lot to me and together with our help they can do even more for the coming year. Please join me and register now to be a collector in your area,” says Jaquie.
SAFE’s work is entirely funded by donations provided by generous members of the public. SAFE will hold its national annual street appeal this Friday and Saturday (21/22 December). Over 1500 caring Kiwis in 47 cities and towns will don brightly coloured animal costumes to collect donations from the public. Money raised will be used to fund campaign initiatives and humane education projects in 2013.
To register as a collector visit www.safe.org.nz or call 0800 SAVE US. To donate now please text appeal to 4419 to make an immediate $3 donation, or look out for collectors in your area!
The street appeal starts at 8am this Friday.
