Media Release: EDS releases its draft submission on
proposed resource management
reforms
The Environmental Defence Society has released its detailed draft submission on the highly contentious Resource Management Act reforms for public feedback.
“We remain concerned that the proposed changes could lower environmental standards in our country. Our key concerns are the proposed changes to sections 6 and 7 of the RMA and the proposal to give radical new powers to Ministers,” said EDS Chairman Gary Taylor.
“This draft is a work in progress. We are releasing it before the closing date for submissions to the Government’s paper and would welcome any constructive feedback from community groups, resource management professionals or our members and supporters.
“We also invite individuals and groups to use this draft to inform the preparation of their own submissions. The reforms are complex but it is important that everyone is able to have a say.
“The bottom line is that changes to the Resource Management that will weaken environmental protections need to be opposed.
“Submissions close with the Ministry for the Environment on Tuesday 2 April 2013,” Mr Taylor concluded.
