CTU commends Dunne’s decision not to support charter schools

CTU welcomes Peter Dunne’s decision not to support the Governments ideologically driven proposal to introduce charter schools in New Zealand.

Helen Kelly, CTU President says “we commend Peter Dunne on his decision. Charter schools will not help education achievement for our children, they have failed overseas, and have no place in New Zealand’s quality education system.”

“Our parents, communities and teachers don’t want these unaccountable schools or unqualified teachers in our classrooms. They will only take much needed resource away from our public education system which is delivering quality education which already provides for a wide range of schooling opportunities.”

“The government needs to focus on supporting the good work that is already happening in our education system and ensuring all children have good educational opportunities rather than pushing through unpopular, unwanted, undemocratic and ideologically driven charter schools.”
