Taiwanese woman arrested for $900k worth of ‘P’
A 47 year old Taiwanese woman was arrested and
charged at Auckland International Airport last night after
Customs officers found approximately 900 grams of crystal
methamphetamine (‘P’) in her possession. The drugs have
a street value of approximately $900,000.
Customs officers searched the baggage of the woman, who arrived on a flight from Hong Kong. The drugs were located within two suitcases she was carrying.
She was arrested by Organised and Financial Crime Agency New Zealand (OFCANZ) detectives and has been charged with possession of Class A drugs for supply and importation of Class A drugs. She has been remanded in custody to reappear in court on 26 April.
Customs Acting Group Manager Investigations and Response Shane Panettiere says this arrest is a positive outcome, and it has stopped a significant amount of illicit drugs from getting to the streets and harming our communities.”
“Customs will continue to put pressure on drug importations with the aim of disrupting the supply chain and cracking down on drug syndicates,” he says.
Customs works closely with the OFCANZ in relation to drugs and other organised crime.
Methamphetamine is a class A controlled drug. Importation carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
Customs Minister Maurice Williamson says the arrest sends a strong message to anyone who imports this terrible drug into our country – you will be caught and prosecuted.
