Cannabis Party enters by-election race

Cannabis Party enters by-election race

The Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party (ALCP) announced today that it will be standing a candidate in the Ikaroa Rawhiti by-election.

"The candidate selection process is under-way and we will be announcing the successful nominee on May 28," party secretary Irinka Britnell said.

"The vast majority of New Zealanders support relaxing cannabis laws, as shown on TV3's The Vote, but Minister Dunne has ignored the will of the public and The Law Commission on this issue."

Party supporters form the East Coast are encouraged to contact the ALCP via its website (www.alcp.org.nz) and join the campaign team.

"ALCP came second in the 2004 Te Tai Hauauru by-election and this by-election we will be aiming to go one place better," Ms Britnell said.

"ALCP has stood a candidate in every by-election since 1996 and the strength of the party continues to grow in te iwi Maori electorates."
