Green Councillor Stepping Down
PRESS RELEASE
EMBARGOED TILL TUESDAY 4 JUNE 2013
Green Councillor Stepping Down
Hawke's Bay Regional Councillor Liz Remmerswaal has announced she is stepping down from her role as Hastings electorate representative in October and will not be seeking re-election.
Cr Remmerswaal has been on the council for six years and served on the Maori and Transport committees, as well as being a hearings commissioner for three years.
She says while she has enjoyed the challenge of championing the environment, it is time to move on to other things.
Cr Remmerswaal says she was elected on an environmental mandate, and believes she has accomplished all she can possibly do in her current role.
She hopes that fresh, new voices will take her place, and is eager to take what she has learned to broader horizons.
"Just because I'm leaving council doesn't mean I'm abandoning the causes i have fought so hard for, but I will be pursuing other ways of making things happen," she says.
Cr Remmerswaal is passionate about leaving the environment better off for future generations.
"I will continue to do all I can to improve the social, cultural, economic and especially environmental wellbeing of Hawke's Bay, she says.
Cr Remmerswaal says she is proud of never having compromised her ideals or integrity, as well the gains she has made such as saving Enviroschools,
calling for stronger regulations in the oil and gas industry, and getting council to look at action on climate change.
