Portfolio Agreements Signed: Next Step In Te Hiku Iwi Accord

Signing of Portfolio Agreements Next Step In Te Hiku Iwi Social Accord

Iwi representatives and Crown Agencies are signing agreements today that are the next step in the Social Development Accord with Te Hiku o Te Ika iwi representatives as part of the iwi’s Treaty Settlement.

The Accord was signed at Waitangi on 5 February by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Maori Affairs and the Minister of Social Development.

The next step is the signing of portfolio agreements that make up the Accord with the Ministry of Social Development, Education (including the Tertiary Education Commission), Justice (including the Ministry of Justice, Corrections and Police), the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment, Department of Internal Affairs, Te Puni Kokiri and the Government Statistician.

The Ministry of Social Development is leading the implementation and co-ordination of the Accord for the Crown, supported by Te Puni Kokiri.

“The portfolio agreements are designed to show agencies’ commitment to work in partnership with Te Hiku and with each other to make a difference to the iwi of the Far North” says MSD Deputy Chief Executive Family and Community Services, Murray Edridge.

Chief Executives of social sector agencies are attending today’s ceremony in Wellington to sign their sections of the Accord.
