Porirua Mayor Applauds $800 Million Investment In Wellington City
The Government's huge $800 million investment in Wellington City will be a fantastic boost for the whole region, says Porirua Mayor Nick Leggett.
"This is a kick-start the whole region needs, including Porirua, the Kapiti Coast and the Hutt Valley, as it is such a major upgrade to our transport system. At last we will have a first world highway to Wellington Airport, the desperately-needed second Mt Victoria Tunnel, the 4,000 jobs created will boost the region's economy and the Basin Reserve Bridge will ease congestion for those travelling to the regional hospital."
"The proposed design of the Basin Reserve Bridge is truly innovative because of all its amenities: gardens, lighting, offices and retail space."
"The enhancement of the Basin Reserve Pavilion, together with provision being made to recycle the tunnel's spoil for the much-needed airport extension, is proof that infrastructural enhancement can also be used to improve facilities and amenities for all Wellingtonians," said Mayor Leggett.
"At last we know the Government hasn't forgotten the Wellington region. I'm hoping these plans won't be blocked by Wellington City Council as it did on the Basin flyover."
