Campaign For Marriage Equality Congratulates Happy Couples

PRESS RELEASE: EMBARGOED UNTIL 12:00am, 19 AUGUST 2013

Campaign For Marriage Equality Congratulates Happy Couples

The Campaign for Marriage Equality is incredibly proud of the many couples throughout New Zealand who are tying the knot today as the Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Amendment Act 2013 comes into force.

"A massive congratulations to the happy couples tying the knot today. Marriage equality has finally arrived in New Zealand." said Campaign co-ordinator Conrad Reyners.

"It's fantastic to see so many couples finally formalise their love before their family, whānau and friends".

Today, kiwis across New Zealand will have their love treated exactly the same as anyone else's. Their loving relationships will be equal in the eyes of the law.

"We can't wait for family, friends and whānau to join in the celebrations. All love is equal and we are looking forward to kiwis celebrating together on this special day."

The Campaign for Marriage Equality congratulates the sponsor of the Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Amendment Act 2013, Louisa Wall, and thanks all of the MPs from across the House who supported the campaign. The Campaign is also tremendously proud of the hundreds of volunteers that worked so hard to make marriage equality a reality.

"We are incredibly proud that this day has finally arrived. Finally, all kiwis have a fair go. To all the happy couples walking up the aisle today, best wishes and congratulations!"  said Conrad Reyners.
